While HiFonics AluButyl mats are primarily designed to dampen vibrating or easily resonating sheet metal parts behind door panels or other locations in the vehicle due to their high mass and internal density, the application of acoustic foams is additionally recommended to further enhance the sound through improved sound absorption in the interior.
HiFonics offers two foams of different thicknesses for this purpose: the ZEUS ZSQ7 and ZSQ15, which optimize interior acoustics in vehicles. The material can be compressed to 1 or 2 mm, respectively, making it very easy to work with. Depending on the application, it dampens sheet metal or can keep surfaces and parts prone to vibration, such as shock absorbers, under tension. For example, another layer of foam can be glued onto the AluButyl recommended for door panels, between the door panel and the trim, to improve acoustics. Tailgates or rear parcel shelves are often left without additional trim from the factory and tend to reflect sound. The 15 mm thick, textured ZSQ15 is particularly well-suited for this application. Both ZSQ foams are self-adhesive, making them ideal for quieting loosely laid cables.
