At the heart of the HiFonics ZEUS EVOLUTION woofers’ drive system are powerful 140 mm Y35 magnets, which drive large 64 mm voice coils. These are ventilated by thermally optimized pole vents. Furthermore, so-called “bumped” T-plates (pole plates) ensure even greater excursion, reaching up to +/- 17 mm (X-Max). While inexpensive woofers typically use pressed cones, the ZXE woofers employ expensive, hand-made paper cones with double stitching to the surrounds, renowned for their exceptional sound quality. All these components give the ZXE subwoofers an extremely high efficiency of 92 dB or 90 dB at 2.83 volts/1 meter, meaning that even with a low input signal, the bass drivers can achieve high volume levels. The Thiele-Small parameters are designed so that the ZXE woofers can be used to build powerful bass-reflex enclosures with impressive low-frequency extension, as well as medium-sized sealed enclosures. Even free-air applications are possible.
Visually, the Zeus woofers live up to the HF style: A newly tooled gasket, the blue magnet boot typical of HiFonics, and the blue stitched surround proudly display the HiFonics brand insignia.
